Easter Tasting was in some way an exaggeration but an good opportunity to taste some appropriate presents for good friends.
It is almost standard to start the tasting with two CÀRN MÒR Strictly Limited Edition single malt whiskies and with surprise we noticed that the 7 year old Tobermory turned out to be the guest’s favourite beating the 19 year old Glentauchers.
Both were followed by 4 secrets …
Secret 1 – distilled 1994, bottled January 2016, 49,3 % vol.
Secret 2 – distilled Sept. 1990, bottled January 2016, 48,5 % vol.
Secret 3 – distilled Dec. 1991, bottled January 2016, 54,5 % vol.
Secret 4 – distilled March 1991, bottled January 2016, 55,1 % vol.
What secrets? Sometimes it is necessary to seduce the single malt whisky aficionados. And to cut a long story short – all were quite thankful for the little trick. All four whiskies were single grain whiskies:
Girvan 1994 – 21 years old
Cambus 1990 – 25 years old
Strathclyde 1991 – 24 years old
Port Dundas 1991 – 24 years old
During the tasting the bottles were “made anonymous“, i.e. you could not see the label and had no idea what kind of whisky this was. Guessing was the immediate reaction – which region, age, matured in which type of cask?
Finally, after the secret was disclosed the common opinion was that single grain whiskies deserve a much greater attention than usually granted.
Then we finished with three CÀRN MÒR stars
Glen Garioch 1998 – Black Gold Edition
Macallan 1989
Bowmore 1991
All three bottlings are extremely rare – please see the details on our homepage respectively the lineup.
The excellent food prepared by our chef Peter Weginger contributed to this pleasant and entertaining evening.
